UNCG is bringing back the ability to schedule Microsoft Teams class meetings directly in Canvas using the new Microsoft Education tool. This update restores a key workflow for instructors who teach synchronous virtual classes.
Who Benefits?
This update is especially helpful for:
- Faculty who schedule class meetings with Microsoft Teams
- Instructors teaching synchronous or hybrid courses using Canvas
What’s Changing?
In May 2025, Microsoft removed the Microsoft Teams Classes and Microsoft Teams Meetings tools from Canvas. These tools allowed instructors to schedule Teams meetings directly inside their course shells.
The new Microsoft Education tool includes a Microsoft Teams Meetings app that replaces those retired tools. While Microsoft Education will eventually include additional Microsoft applications, the focus for this semester is restoring Teams Meetings scheduling in Canvas.
When Is This Available?
- Friday, Dec. 12, 2025 – The Microsoft Education tool will be available to enable in Canvas course shells.

If you teach synchronous virtual classes and use Microsoft Teams Meetings, ITS encourages you to attend a live demo session.

Do I Need to Do Anything?
