What is it?
UNCG is preparing to move Ellucian Banner, the system used to manage many of the University’s administrative and academic processes, to a cloud-based service.
This change, called Software as a Service (SaaS), means Ellucian will host and manage Banner instead of UNCG managing it on campus.
The transition will take place over several years as Ellucian moves Banner to its cloud-based platform.
Why are we doing it?
Ellucian is moving Banner to a SaaS model. UNCG must make this transition to continue using Banner and supporting essential University services.
Preparing now will help UNCG:
- Maintain access to Banner and its services.
- Identify campus needs before changes are made.
- Simplify processes where possible.
- Plan for changes to systems, data, and daily work.
- Support students, faculty, and staff throughout the transition.
How will I be impacted?
If you use Banner or support Banner-related processes, you may be invited to participate in planning sessions with Ellucian.
These sessions will help the project team understand how departments use Banner today, including:
- Daily tasks and procedures.
- Current challenges and special requirements.
- Reporting and data needs.
- Connections to other University systems.
No immediate changes to Banner are planned as part of these initial sessions. More information about future changes will be shared as the project moves forward.
When will this be implemented?
The project begins with planning sessions led by Ellucian on Oct. 20-22, 2026.
These sessions will help UNCG identify campus needs and prepare for the transition.
The full move to Banner SaaS is expected to take place over the next several years. A detailed implementation timeline has not yet been established.
What do I need to do?
If you are invited to participate in an Ellucian planning session:
- Attend your scheduled session. ITS will provide invitations and details.
- Be prepared to share how your department uses Banner, including current processes, challenges, and requirements.
- Identify important needs, such as reports, data, or connections to other systems.
- Complete a survey, if requested, to help the project team understand how the transition may affect your work.
Your feedback will help UNCG plan a transition that supports the needs of the campus community.
