All current UNCG students, faculty, and staff now have access to Spartan AI, a new secure AI workspace that brings multiple AI models together in one university-supported environment.
What Is Spartan AI?
Spartan AI, powered by nebulaONE, gives the UNCG community access to multiple AI models, including models from OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude), xAI (Grok), and Mistral AI.
You can use Spartan AI for tasks such as:
- Drafting and revising content
- Summarizing and analyzing information
- Brainstorming ideas and exploring topics
- Working with documents and information
- Organizing related work with Projects
- Creating specialized Agents for particular tasks or workflows
Who Benefits?
UNCG is providing Spartan AI to give the University community a secure, university-supported way to use generative AI.
Spartan AI:
- Protects your data from model training. Prompts and data used within Spartan AI are not used to train AI models.
- Works with UNCG data. Use Spartan AI with information you have access to in Microsoft 365, including L3 and L4 data.
- Uses UNCG-managed infrastructure. Spartan AI runs within UNCG’s Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
How Do I Get Started?
- Go to Spartan AI.
- Sign in with your UNCG account.
- Choose an available AI model.
- Start a conversation. Get curious and see where it takes you.
If you’re new to generative AI, you don’t need the perfect prompt to get started.
Try asking: “What are some ways you could help me with my work or studies?” Then keep the conversation going from there.
Use Spartan AI responsibly. AI use for coursework is governed by your instructor’s policies and may be prohibited in some classes. Review your instructor’s AI policy before using AI for coursework, and ask your instructor if you are unsure. All coursework remains subject to UNCG’s Academic Integrity Policy.
Remove identifying details when they aren’t needed. Ask if you’re unsure about using particular information, and review AI-generated content for accuracy before using or sharing it. See Security and Compliance Considerations for UNCG AI Tools for more guidance.
Why Is UNCG Piloting Spartan AI?
Spartan AI is part of a 12-month AI evaluation program designed to give UNCG real-world experience with different AI technologies.
By putting these tools into the hands of faculty, staff, and students, UNCG can learn how they are actually used, where they provide value, and what our community needs from AI. What we learn during the pilot will help inform longer-term decisions about AI services at UNCG.
