Beginning Monday, Aug. 10, ITS will make several updates to MyCloud that simplify how Administrative and Academic applications are accessed and improve the desktop environment.

These changes do not affect who has access to applications. Instead, they change how some applications are launched.

Who Is Affected?

All faculty, staff, and students who use MyCloud Administrative or Academic desktops.

What Is Changing?

Beginning Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, several applications will no longer appear as individual launch options in the Citrix Workspace interface.

Instead, you will:

  1. Launch the appropriate MyCloud desktop.
  2. Open the application from within that desktop.

The following applications will be removed from the Citrix Workspace interface:

Administrative Applications

  • EmbARK
  • MIM Browser
  • Remote Desktop Client

Academic Applications

  • IBM SPSS Statistics
  • MATLAB
  • Mplus
  • SAS
  • Stata

Note: Secure Apps and applications provided through persistent hosts (such as ADUC and GPMC) are not affected and will remain available as they are today.

Additional MyCloud Improvements

ITS will transition the Administrative and Academic desktops to a new desktop environment designed to improve performance, reliability, and ongoing maintenance.

As part of this update:

  • The Academic Dev Desktop will be retired.
  • Applications previously available through the Academic Dev Desktop will be available from the Academic Desktop, creating one central location for Academic applications.

When?

Monday, Aug. 10, 2026

  • Applications are removed from the Citrix Workspace interface.

Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026

  • Administrative and Academic desktops transition to the new desktop environment.
  • Academic Dev Desktop is retired. Launch the Academic Desktop to access those applications.
  • Fall 2026 MyCloud desktop and application updates are released.

Do I Need to Do Anything?

No action is required before these changes take effect.

If you use one of the applications listed above, you’ll simply begin launching it from the appropriate MyCloud desktop instead of directly from the Citrix Workspace interface.

Why Is This Changing?

These updates simplify the MyCloud experience by organizing Administrative and Academic applications within their respective desktops while moving to a newer desktop platform.

The new environment is expected to provide:

  • Better performance
  • Improved reliability
  • Simpler maintenance
  • A more consistent experience for MyCloud users
