ITS is updating the security certificate used by the eduroam wireless network. To continue connecting to eduroam without interruption, some users must re-enroll their devices through SecureW2 before the new certificate is deployed.
If you configured your device for eduroam using SecureW2 before Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, you must complete this update before Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.
Who Is Affected?
This update applies to:
- Students, faculty, and staff who configured a device for eduroam using SecureW2 before Friday, Aug. 7, 2026.
No action is required if:
- You first configured eduroam through SecureW2 on or after Friday, Aug. 7, 2026.
- You use a managed GCN Windows or Mac device. These devices will receive the updated configuration automatically.
What Is Happening?
ITS is changing the certificate issuer used to secure the eduroam wireless network.
Beginning Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at 3:30 p.m., the SecureW2 enrollment profile will include the new root and intermediate certificates required for the updated eduroam configuration.
Only devices that complete or re-complete enrollment through SecureW2 will receive the updated profile. Devices configured before Aug. 7, 2026, will continue using the previous certificate chain and will no longer trust the eduroam connection after the new certificate is deployed.
When?
- Complete re-enrollment by Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026.
- The new certificate will be deployed on or before Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.
Devices that have not been re-enrolled by this time may be unable to connect to eduroam until they receive the updated SecureW2 profile.
Why?
This update is required because the certificate issuer for eduroam is changing.
Re-enrolling through SecureW2 installs the updated configuration profile with the new root and intermediate certificates, allowing your devices to continue authenticating securely to eduroam without interruption.
Do I Need to Do Anything?
Yes, if you configured your device for eduroam using SecureW2 before Friday, Aug. 7, 2026.
To update your device:
- Go to securew2.uncg.edu.
- Sign in with your UNCG credentials.
- Follow the prompts to remove the existing eduroam profile (if prompted) and install the updated profile.
- Verify that your device connects successfully to eduroam.
The process takes a few minutes and should be completed on each laptop, phone, or tablet that was previously configured for eduroam.
